Too many leaves to clean?

We're ready to tackle your Fall Cleanup!

Your yard, just like bears, also need to prepare before it hibernates for the winter.  A proper winterization of your yard will ensure that your lawn and garden will bounce back healthy the following spring.

Removing excess debris on your lawn is important to prevent your lawn from suffocating.  Collected leaf debris can be mulched and left in your garden beds to return the nutrients in your yard and serve as nesting ground for our beneficial insects (hello ladybugs!).  We can also bring them to our partner organic farm to be returned to nature - your preference, of course!.

Our fall clean up package includes:
  • Leaf blow-out / raking
  • Final mow & trim for the season

CORE AERATION and FALL FERTILIZER application can also be added to ensure a strong come back of your lawn in spring.  Feel free to add perennial plant trimming in your package for a tidy look throughout winter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to aerate my lawn?
Picture
Over time and from constant use, the soil under your grass gets compacted.  When soil gets compacted, it is more difficult for your grass to develop deeper root system and access air, water, and minerals that are essential for its growth.  Compacted soil also negatively affects presence of beneficial soil organisms that help keep your soil healthy.

Core aeration helps loosen the soil by removing soil plugs allowing for air, water, & minerals to be available for your lawn and other beneficial soil organisms.

If your soil gets a lot of foot traffic, you may want to consider getting this done.  The best way to know is by getting a core sample of the lawn.  If grass roots extend only to the first 2 inches, your soil may benefit from core aeration.
When should I aerate my lawn?
The best time to aerate lawns in Calgary is between May to June and in October before winter sets in.

Getting this done in the spring will help your lawn reap its benefits during its growing season and allowing it to recover from the procedure.  In the fall, this procedure allows for your lawn to winterize better after all the use it has experienced during the summer months.
Do you remove the soil plugs after aeration?
No, we don't.  The soil plugs are best left on the lawn so they can be reabsorbed.
When done in the fall, the plugs get broken down by the freeze-thaw events that we get during the winter months.
I need some work done on my garden beds when you come do my cleanup.  Can you do that?
Absolutely!  Please let us know when you fill out our booking form about this request and we will include it when we do your spring cleanup.  Please note that we charge $65/manhour for this service and is subject to disposal fees.
Where do all the cleanup debris go?
We put all the yard waste in your green bin for city pickup.  Everything that does not fit in the green bin, we will take with us to our partner farm for composting.
When will you come do my fall cleanup?
We do our yard cleanups in the order they are booked.  The window to do fall cleanups vary each year and is usually shorter than spring cleanups.

Ideally, we will come to your yard when most of the leaves (about 50%) have fallen and before winter sets in.
